For meat, head to Angelaki Tavern of the Hatzifotis family, a favorite spot for many locals. After its recent renovation, the well - designed space combines island character with outdoor grills and spits. Exemplary grilled liver, excellent braised or lemon - flavored goat, and homemade dishes by Mrs. Eirini moussaka and incredible stuffed grape leaves with minced meat. Taking a small 4 km detour from Kiotari, we ascend to Asklepieio, a quiet mountain village with small white houses, typical examples of folk architecture.

In the square stands the recently restored Byzantine Church of the Dormition of the Virgin (1060 AD) with exceptional frescoes, and an old olive press in its courtyard hosting a small but interesting Ecclesiastical - Folklore Museum with a collection of farming tools, icons, and household utensils.
